Zimbabwe cricket captain and top-order batsman Hamilton Masakadza and all-rounder Sean Williams are playing in the 2016 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL).
Masakadza is playing for Kalabagan Krira Chakra and Williams is with Brothers Union, for whom he has played before in Bangladesh’s premier 50-over competition.
Both suffered losses with their clubs, in their first round matches of the List A tournament which is played on a round-robin basis.
Masakadza top-scored for Kalabagan with 41 runs before he fell to Jubair whose effort of six wickets for 34 runs in 9.1 overs at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium (KSOAS) in Fatullah on Friday.
In reply, Tamim Iqbal captained Abahani to the target in 28.3 overs with seven wickets in hand.
For Masakadza’s side, captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who is also the Bangladesh One-Day International skipper, went for 18 runs without return in his four overs.
As the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur, Williams’ Brothers Union was beaten by 78 runs by the Mohammedan Sporting Club.
The winners were powered to their 285-run total by half centuries from Bangladesh Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim, Upul Tharanga and Nazmul Hossain Milon.
Williams bowled eight overs for 40 runs.
Chasing, Brothers Union were bowled out for 207 runs. Williams struggled in the heat and made eight runs.
“It’s hotter than anywhere I have ever played as it’s summer,” said Williams, adding: “But I have had sufficient rest and we are having adequate preparations for our next game on Tuesday.”
Brothers Union play Kalabagan Cricket Academy at the SBNCS on the outskirts of the Bangladesh capital Dhaka, while Masakadza’s KCC meets Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club at the KSOAS in Fatullah, also tomorrow.
