Mbofana stars with six-for as Zimbabwe Women rout Eswatini Women

Eswatini Women – 17 all out 9.2 overs (Ntombizini Gwebu 6, Ntombizonke Mkatshwa 2, Dumsile Dlamini 1; Esther Mbofana 6/11, Loryn Phiri 3/1, Nomvelo Sibanda 1/2)

Zimbabwe Women – 18-0 in 2 overs (Modester Mupachikwa 13*, Precious Marange 2*)

Zimbabwe Women won by 10 wickets

Esther Mbofana claimed a six-wicket haul as Zimbabwe Women routed Eswatini by 10 wickets in a lopsided group match at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier Africa regional tournament in Botswana on Saturday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Eswatini were skittled for 17 in 9.2 overs, with only four of their batters getting runs.

Ntombizini Gwebu top-scored with six, Ntombizonke Mkatshwa made two, while Dumisile Dlamini and Tenele Malinga could only manage a single run each.

This means only 10 of Eswatini’s total runs came off the bat, while the rest were extras.

Remarkably, the first four wickets were all trapped lbw by Mbofana, who went on to finish with figures of six for 11 off her four overs.

Loryn Phiri joined in the party with three wickets for one run off the 1.2 overs she bowled, while Nomvelo Sibanda took one for two off two.

It then took Zimbabwe Women only two overs to chase down the target, as Modester Mupachikwa (13*) and Precious Marange (2*) completed the massive victory without any trouble.

In their next group match on Sunday, Zimbabwe Women will face Botswana Women.
